BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Level 3 Communications Inc. said Wednesday that it named Rahul N. Merchant to its board, effective Oct. 1.

Merchant is a partner at Exigen Capital, which is a private equity firm.
Level 3 is a wholesale Internet networking services provider.
